We are a school bus service provider and we are looking for a mature, professional, and organized person who has experience in customer service and great communication and computer skills to work as a part time Router/Dispatcher.
Below is a sample of the job description for this position.
Summary/Objective Maintains and operates school bus routing software to create bus routes and assign passengers.
Coordinates and evaluates transportation needs for students in order to produce safe and efficient school bus route planning and scheduling for to and from school and school events.
Acts as a transportation liaison and coordinate transportation needs and information between parents/guardians, schools, and the drivers.
May drive school buses on a relief basis.
Essential Functions 1.
Uses Routing Software to ensure that changes, adds and deletes to routes are accurate and up-to-date.
2.
Coordinates and implements school bus routing; creates routing solutions for the safe and efficient transport of students; corrects and updates time schedules and route maps.
3.
Plans and coordinates bus routes between homes and school; adjusts routes in response to changing curriculum needs and other situations impacting transportation routes.
4.
May function as liaison and information link between parents, the District's schools, drivers, and the Company to ensure the safe and efficient transportation for students, including evaluating needs and requirements, explaining policies and procedures; and ensuring that accurate information is communicated to all involved parties.
5.
Enters routing and student data into computerized transportation routing system; monitors, updates and ensures the accuracy of all system data; monitors, runs and ensures accuracy of regular and special reports.
6.
Performs dispatcher duties during route times via 2-way radio and telephones by acting as the communication hub for drivers.
7.
Provides information and assistance to staff, schools and the public on routing issues, assists with the evaluation and resolution of complaints and issues.
8.
Assists in the preparation and execution of assigning substitute drivers to open routes as needed.
9.
Creates route itineraries for drivers, route summaries for school and office, route books for dispatch and other information designed for quick access to route information.
10.
Answers calls from parents and schools relating to transportation issues, questions and complaints.
Competencies 1.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with emphasis on oral communications skills.
2.
Mid to high level typing skills, computer literacy and software experience including MS office.
3.
Interact with a diverse group of individuals in a courteous and tactful manner, and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
4.
Prioritize and multi-task; ability to work accurately and frequently under pressure and with interruptions.

Required Education and Experience 1.
Working knowledge of two-way radio equipment operation and dispatching devices or ability to learn in a reasonable amount of time.

Appropriate dispatching policies and practices, or ability to learn within a reasonable amount of time.
3.
Relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, and Company standards, policies, and procedure related to transportation processes, or ability to learn within a reasonable amount of time.
4.
Geographic region, school locations, District bus routes, and student transporting equipment, or ability to learn within a reasonable amount of time.
5.
Ability to become familiar with District streets and roads, read maps, and learn about transportation equipment and student needs.
6.
Routing computer system and processes, or ability to learn within a reasonable amount of time.
7.
Follow emergency dispatch procedures and ability to notify stakeholders in a timely fashion 8.
Strong customer service and de-escalation skills.
9 Ability to work under pressure.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work, and environment.
This is a part time position.
Typical work schedule is M-F; (5:
30 am to 9:
00 AM and 1:
30 pm to 5:
00 pm) however this can fluctuate due to needs.
Hours are set by management.
Typical work environment is a traditional indoor office setting.
The primary function of the router is to input passenger information into the routing system to assign them to routes.
Input route information into the software.
Communicate with drivers, parents, school officials in regards to route information.
Handle incoming calls and complaints about routes.
Provide route reports and data as needed.
Assist in filling openings due to absence by assigning substitute drivers.
Assist the manager as needed.
Candidate must be able to handle complaints from parents, professionally and courteously.
Must be 21 years old or older.
Drug free workplace.
No DWI's within the past 10 years.
On the job training provided for primary position and also for CDL bus driving.
